About

My name is Courtney and I like to draw. Now that that’s out of the way, here’s some more stuff about me:

I am currently waiting to receive my diploma for communicative disorders from the University of Mississippi (aka “Ole Miss”). Why communicative disorders? I honestly don’t know. I took the first class per advice from my mother, and by that time, I had already spent three semesters at Ole Miss just trying to figure out what it is that I wanted to do. I switched my major from art to communicative disorders, and here we are today.

I have been drawing since I was very young. It all started when I up and decided that I wanted to be a paleontologist. I don’t really know why I thought that digging up bones would be fun, but I did, and I was obsessed with dinosaurs. I think my parents still have some drawings of dinosaurs I did when I was pretty young. Oh also? Like most young girls, I desperately wanted a pony. Guess what the OTHER thing I drew all the time was. Go ahead, guess. PONIES. So many ponies. Ponypocalypse.

When I got a little older, I started drawing cartoon characters. I mostly drew the characters from the Lion King, since it was my very favorite movie. I remember drawing a lot of Looney Tunes characters, too, since that was pretty much what was hot when I was a kid growing up in Mississippi. Yep, we were still obsessed with Looney Tunes. Anyway, with all the Lion King and Looney Tunes stuff, I made the move to drawing animals exclusively. It was mostly big cats, but there were smatterings of other species in there.

Lately, I’ve been trying to work on the one thing that has always escaped my artistic grasp: humans. I’m almost exclusively drawing World of Warcraft characters now, since a lot of the rest of my time is spent in WoW, and uh, it turns out I’m just not that creative with subject matter when it comes to humans. My WoW characters give me a reason to draw humanoids, so just deal with it, because that’s what I’m going to be posting a lot of ❀

Um. Other things…

I work at the Ink Spot (website possibly incoming…eventually), a small t-shirt printing company here in Oxford. I have worked as the Ink Spot’s art manager/graphic designer for about four years now, and I absolutely adore it. Sometimes. Drawing images for t-shirts has helped me to realize my potential as an artist and to expand my artistic encyclopedia. I’ve had to draw things you wouldn’t believe for this place, and am only just now starting to realize just how much it has helped me to improve, despite the sheer amount of stomping and complaining that I tend to do when faced with a difficult project on a limited time frame.

I’m currently living with my wonderful and supportive boyfriend, Zach. We may as well be married, as we’ve been dating for over 6 years now, so it feels like calling him my “boyfriend” is cheapening the relationship. Our apartment complex doesn’t allow pets, but one day we’ll have the means to move into a nicer place that does, and I will be the Queen of Kittens. Also puppies, but “Queen of Puppies” doesn’t have the same ring to it.

Now you know a lot of stuff about me! No blackmailing, plz.
